Land Management of a reclaimed peach farm. When purchased the land consisted of peach trees that were no longer productive and bulldozed into the middle of the property and a low lying area consisting of a creek, some hardwood trees, pines, and cedar.
Efforts included planting 50 acres of pines, allowing a natural canopy of hardwood mixed with cedar and pine to mature, controlled prescribed burn to encourage wildlife habitat, planting ground cover for wildlife including corn, wheat, sun flowers, peas, beans, and rye.
Ongoing management includes
Working with USDA-NRCS team to control invasive species like privet and run off from surrounding farming operations through additional planting and terracing of land. Continuing planting of ground cover, crops, trees and plants along with and thinning projects to encourage animal habitat and carbon reclamation.
